Senate registers of House bills, 1884-[ongoing].

Senate registers of House bills are a record of House bills appearing before the Senate within a particular session, and contain the Senate bill number, the bill title, bill description, name of Senate member presenting the House bill that has already passed the House, and what action was taken in the Senate concerning the bill. If the bill was passed, the word "signed" or "enrolled and signed" will appear below the bill description. Beginning ca. 1965, an index was placed within each Senate register of House bills volume listing in alphabetical order the names of the members of the Senate, and the bill numbers of the bills that they will be presenting before the Senate in that session. The action taken on each bill is posted almost daily by register clerks, and this information is recorded below each bill description. Beginning ca. 1975, if a bill passed both the Senate and the House, then, with only certain bills, an act number was assigned and recorded in red ink at the top of the page.

A plank road or puncheon is a dirt path or road covered with a series of planks, similar to the wooden sidewalks one would see in a Western movie. Plank roads were very popular in Ontario, the U.S. Northeast and U.S. Midwest in the first half of the 19th century. From the guide to the Alabama Legislature petition MSS. 0039., 1849, (W.S.
